Week 5

This video is my first attempt to put together a final video, I have increased the saturation and contrast and made the sound of the squeaking balloons more prominent. I have also added a posterised effect, however, I think I overdid this a little bit as you cant tell they are balloons anymore. I need to redo the word boisterous on the wall because it is a bit hard to see and the colours aren't in the right order.

This is a second trial video for my final. The posterise effect looks better on this one but I still need to replace the boisterous word.

Final video:

Mocked up in situ:

I would like this video to be projected onto a plain hallway so that people have to walk past it and feels as though they are walking through the balloons too.

Rationale:

The poem that I connected to the most was “the visit” by Jenny Bornholdt. The line I related to was “be boisterous”. I feel uncomfortable and intimated by boisterous people because this is something I want to be but am not. I started this assessment off by trying to visualise what boisterous vs shy would look like but the turning point for me was searching for synonyms for the word boisterous. Unruly, noisy, mischievous, loud, bouncy, unrestrained, wild and rowdy were all synonyms that came up that I associate with balloons.

The final idea of trying to force my way through a jungle of bright colourful balloons creates a very disorientating and overwhelming situation. It is uncomfortable to watch and the added effect of the squeaking balloon sound really channels the tense feeling I associate with boisterous people. In a real-life situation, this video would be projected onto a hallway because an enclosed space creates a tense atmosphere which enhances the experience.
